AFFIN and Baiduri Bank Ink Partnership to Boost Malaysia-Brunei Financial Corridor
The two financial institutions have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cross-border banking services and support growing bilateral trade.

AFFIN Group and Baiduri Bank, the largest conventional bank in Brunei Darussalam, have entered into a formal Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cross-border banking operations between the two nations. This strategic alliance is designed to link AFFIN’s established network in Malaysia with Baiduri Bank’s domestic franchise, effectively streamlining financial transactions for businesses operating across the border.
According to the original publisher, the collaboration will encompass a comprehensive range of financial services. Both banks have committed to exploring joint opportunities in commercial and retail banking, trade finance, financing, treasury services, and investment banking. Additionally, the scope of the agreement includes stockbroking, asset management, and unit trusts, providing a broader suite of tools for institutional and individual clients.
The initiative arrives at a time of rising economic engagement between Malaysia and Brunei. Official data highlights that bilateral trade reached RM5.8 billion in 2025, with a further RM2.4 billion recorded during the first half of 2026. This trend reflects the broader cooperation currently being fostered between the two countries, spanning sectors such as tourism, energy, the halal economy, and increased investment activities.
For Malaysia, the partnership is particularly significant as it facilitates stronger economic integration between the mainland and East Malaysia. By fostering closer ties between Brunei and the states of Sabah and Sarawak, the agreement supports the national agenda of deepening regional trade links. As both countries look to expand their economic cooperation, this cross-border financial bridge is expected to play a vital role in supporting the increasing flow of capital and commerce between the neighboring markets.
