Global Markets Rise on AI Investment Momentum Amid Middle East Optimism
Investors are balancing optimism over massive artificial intelligence infrastructure spending with cautious hope regarding diplomatic breakthroughs in the Middle East.

Global stock markets saw a moderate lift on Wednesday, driven by record highs on Wall Street and sustained enthusiasm for technology-focused equities. According to the original publisher, MSCI’s index of world shares rose 0.4% as markets responded to a mix of strong corporate earnings and geopolitical developments.
The technology sector remained a primary driver of the session, fueled by fresh evidence of heavy capital expenditure on artificial intelligence infrastructure. This momentum reached Asian markets significantly, where Japan’s Nikkei climbed 3.7% to reach its highest level since July 23, while the South Korean market also experienced a strong recovery, closing 3.8% higher.
However, the tech sector saw mixed results among individual players. AMD shares fell 7% in premarket trading after the company failed to meet the lofty expectations of investors. Simultaneously, SpaceX experienced a 10% decline as concerns mounted regarding the impact of heavy capital spending on its cash flow. In Europe, the STOXX 600 index rose 0.1%, though performance was dampened by a 4.2% drop in Novo Nordisk shares following disappointing sales figures for its Wegovy weight-loss drug, and a 3% decline in HSBC shares.
Market sentiment is also being heavily influenced by ongoing diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. Oil prices and bond yields trended lower as investors monitored potential progress in negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump reported positive discussions, leading to hopes that the five-month conflict may be nearing a resolution.
For Malaysian investors and market observers, these global trends highlight the continued volatility tied to AI-related capital expenditure and geopolitical stability. As global firms adjust their spending patterns to accommodate rapid advancements in AI, the ripple effects are expected to influence regional tech supply chains and market sentiment across Southeast Asia.
