Immigration Department Prepares for Major Influx of International Formula 1 Visitors
Authorities anticipate a surge of up to 300,000 foreign arrivals at Sepang to coincide with global racing events.

The Immigration Department of Malaysia is ramping up operational readiness to manage a significant increase in international arrivals at the Sepang entry points. This proactive stance comes as officials prepare for a potential surge in foreign visitors travelling to witness Formula 1-related activities.
Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban stated that the department is basing its logistical projections on attendance figures observed at previous Formula 1 events held in countries such as Japan and France. Based on these international trends, officials estimate that the total number of foreign visitors entering the country for these events could reach as many as 300,000 individuals.
According to the original publisher, the Malay Mail, the department is currently aligning its resources to ensure efficient processing for the expected influx of travelers. By studying the patterns seen in other host nations, immigration authorities aim to maintain smooth border control operations despite the projected high volume of foot traffic.
This surge in international visitor numbers represents a notable movement of people and capital into the country. For the domestic economy, such an influx typically signals increased activity across the travel, hospitality, and retail sectors. Effective management of this transition is essential for maintaining Malaysia’s reputation as an accessible and well-prepared destination for high-profile global sporting events.
