Inokom Launches RM300 Million Paint Facility to Boost Production Capacity

The new Kulim-based Paint Shop 3 doubles the manufacturing plant's annual painting capacity to 100,000 vehicle bodies.

Sime Motors subsidiary Inokom has officially inaugurated its new Paint Shop 3 (PS3) facility at its manufacturing complex in Kulim, Kedah. Representing an investment of approximately RM300 million, the project stands as one of the largest manufacturing commitments made by Sime Motors to date.

According to the original publisher, the facility is operated by an entirely Malaysian workforce. The integration of PS3 marks a significant expansion of Inokom’s operational footprint, enabling the company to serve as a more flexible and high-capability manufacturing partner for global automotive brands while supporting growth in the regional market.

The new facility provides a substantial boost to production capabilities, effectively doubling Inokom’s total painted vehicle body capacity from 50,000 to 100,000 units per year. Designed to operate on a two-shift system, the plant is capable of outputting up to 15 painted vehicle bodies per hour and features specific capabilities dedicated to painting plastic components.

Technologically, the facility relies on advanced automation to ensure uniform paint quality. Key infrastructure includes a fully automated pre-treatment and electrodeposition (PTED) line, advanced spray booths, and a 1,053-meter conveyor network. This system is supported by 32 specialised robots responsible for painting and sealant application.

For the Malaysian automotive industry, this development strengthens the country’s position as a regional hub for vehicle assembly. By increasing throughput and utilizing automated manufacturing processes, Inokom enhances its ability to meet the rising demands of automotive manufacturers, signaling a long-term commitment to upgrading domestic industrial standards and production efficiency.
