JomCharge Launches 180kW DC Charger at McDonald’s Meru Raya

EV drivers in Ipoh can now access high-speed charging with a month-long discount.

JomCharge has officially activated a new 180kW DC charging station at the McDonald’s Meru Raya drive-thru in Ipoh. Strategically located just a few minutes from the North-South Expressway, this site offers a convenient stop for electric vehicle owners traveling between Kuala Lumpur and Penang who require a battery top-up during their journey.

The new station is equipped with two CCS2 nozzles capable of delivering high-speed charging. According to the original publisher, the standard charging rate is set at RM1.40 per kWh. To activate the service, users can utilize the JomCharge, ChargEV, or Gentari Go mobile applications.

To celebrate the launch, JomCharge is offering a 50% discount on charging fees at this specific location. This promotional period begins on 7 August 2026 and runs for one full month, concluding on 7 September 2026. Drivers who hold JomCharge Elite or Platinum subscriptions may further reduce their costs by stacking their existing membership discounts with this limited-time promotional offer.

The Meru Raya area now provides multiple options for EV charging. Beyond this new JomCharge installation, motorists can also utilize a 120kW DC charger operated by TNB Electron at the nearby Hotel Casuarina Meru, which has been operational since May at a rate of RM1.50 per kWh.

The addition of this 180kW charger at a high-traffic retail location reflects the ongoing expansion of Malaysia’s public charging infrastructure. By placing high-speed units near major food and beverage outlets along the North-South Expressway, operators are aiming to minimize charging downtime for long-distance commuters. This development serves as a practical enhancement for EV adoption in the region, providing more reliable power access for travelers navigating the primary interstate route.
