JomChargeX Launches Ultra-Fast Charging Network for Malaysian EV Drivers

The new brand targets high-power charging speeds, aiming to reduce charging times to as little as five minutes.

JomCharge has officially unveiled JomChargeX, a new sub-brand dedicated to ultra-fast DC charging stations capable of delivering outputs exceeding 200 kW. These new stations, identifiable by their distinct black and orange branding, are set to be deployed at key locations including highway rest stops and fast food drive-thrus, with specific availability visible within the JomCharge app.

According to the original publisher, the rollout includes a facility at the Sepang International Circuit, which features three chargers dispensing 360 kW across six nozzles. Additionally, a location at Xpark Sunway Serene now hosts what is claimed to be Malaysiaโ€™s fastest DC charger, providing 480 kW across two nozzles. Both sites are currently undergoing testing and are not yet accessible to the public, though the company has outlined expansion plans for areas including Ipoh, Tapah, Penang, Yong Peng, and Johor Bahru.

Beyond current capabilities, the infrastructure is designed with significant headroom to support up to 1,200 kW of power. With this capacity, the firm claims that a compatible 1,000-volt electric vehicle could potentially charge from 20 to 70 percent in just five minutes.

Lee Yuen How, managing director of operator EV Connection, stated that the initiative aims to address a primary barrier to local EV adoption: the perceived disparity between the time required to refuel an internal combustion vehicle versus charging an electric one. By facilitating ultra-fast charging, JomChargeX seeks to provide a practical solution that aligns charging times more closely with traditional refueling experiences.

For Malaysian motorists, the introduction of JomChargeX marks a significant step in addressing range anxiety and charging convenience. As the country moves toward broader EV adoption, the ability to recharge at high speeds on major travel corridors is expected to be a critical factor in encouraging the transition from fossil-fuel vehicles to electric alternatives.
