MACC Investigation into KWAP’s eFishery Investment Reaches 80% Completion

The anti-graft agency is finalizing its domestic probe into the RM163.4 million investment but continues to pursue evidence abroad.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has announced that its domestic investigation into the Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) regarding its RM163.4 million investment in Indonesian aquaculture firm eFishery is nearly 80 percent complete.

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed that while the local phase of the inquiry is nearing its conclusion, the international component remains ongoing. Investigators are currently focused on securing necessary financial documents and evidence from several foreign jurisdictions to support the active probe.

According to the original publisher, the commission is working to collect this international evidence before reaching a final determination on the matter. The delay in finalizing the full investigation is attributed to the logistical requirements of coordinating with authorities and institutions in other countries.

The probe centers on the substantial capital injection into eFishery, an Indonesian technology firm operating in the aquaculture sector. The investment has drawn scrutiny, prompting the MACC to track the flow of funds and evaluate the due diligence processes associated with the transaction.

For Malaysian stakeholders and taxpayers, the outcome of this investigation carries significant weight. As KWAP manages the pension funds for public service employees, the transparency and integrity of its investment strategies are critical to maintaining public trust in the country's retirement fund management. The agency’s progress remains a key point of interest as it moves toward the final stages of its international evidence-gathering efforts.
