Mercedes-Benz Launches Integrated Public Charging Access for Malaysian Owners

Owners of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids can now access over 3,000 charging points directly through their car’s interface and mobile app.

Mercedes-Benz has officially introduced its MB.Charge Public feature in Malaysia, coinciding with the local launch of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ EV. This new digital integration allows owners of the brand’s electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) to initiate and manage charging sessions across a network of more than 3,000 charging points spread across 1,000 locations nationwide.

According to the original publisher, the rollout positions Mercedes-Benz within an exclusive group of automakers in Malaysia that provide integrated charging capabilities, joining brands like Tesla, Proton, and Smart. Among these, Mercedes-Benz and Tesla currently stand out as the only manufacturers offering this seamless functionality through both the in-car infotainment system and a dedicated mobile application.

While Tesla limits its integrated charging experience to its own proprietary network, the Mercedes-Benz approach mirrors the strategy adopted by Proton and Smart. The company has collaborated with various local Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to consolidate access for its users. To activate the service, owners simply need to navigate to the Manage Digital Extras section within the official Mercedes-Benz App.

A notable aspect of this rollout is the company’s pricing strategy. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it does not impose any additional service fees or markups on the standard charging rates when users access the network through the MB.Charge Public feature. This transparency ensures that owners are billed directly for the energy consumed without hidden costs associated with the platform convenience.

For the Malaysian EV market, this development represents a significant step toward reducing range anxiety and simplifying the ownership experience. By integrating public charging infrastructure directly into the vehicle ecosystem, Mercedes-Benz reduces the friction often associated with using multiple charging apps from various CPOs. This move reflects the broader industry shift toward creating more cohesive and user-friendly charging networks to support the growing number of electric vehicles on Malaysian roads.
