Nissan Qashqai e-Power Sets World Record With 1,980 km Range

The non-plug-in hybrid SUV achieved a Guinness World Record for the longest journey without refuelling or external charging.

The Nissan Qashqai e-Power has officially set a Guinness World Record for the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric vehicle SUV. The vehicle achieved this milestone by travelling a total of 1,980 km on a single tank of fuel without requiring any external charging or additional refuelling stops.

According to the original publisher, the record-breaking attempt took place in Colombia between July 14 and July 17, 2026. The SUV travelled from Bogota to the Caribbean coast, a route that subjected the vehicle to a diverse range of driving conditions, including varying traffic levels and road terrains. To ensure the validity of the achievement, official judges were present to monitor and verify every stage of the journey.

The performance was driven by Nissanโ€™s third-generation e-Power system, which utilizes a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-three petrol engine. This internal combustion engine functions specifically to generate electricity for the motor. Recent engineering refinements, such as the use of 0W-16 engine oil to reduce friction and improvements to the engine's thermal efficiency, have contributed to the system's overall effectiveness.

Richard Candler, Nissan corporate executive of family, product and components strategy, stated that the record demonstrates the capability of the e-Power technology in real-world driving conditions. He highlighted that the system provides EV-like driving performance while focusing on the practical needs of customers.

For Malaysian consumers, this record highlights the growing viability of non-plug-in hybrids as a transitional technology.
