Proton S70 Prime MC2 Expands Sedan Lineup with Competitive Pricing
Proton’s upcoming naturally-aspirated S70 Prime aims to capture the budget-conscious segment with a feature-rich sub-RM70,000 price point.

The 2026 Proton S70 Prime MC2 is set to enter the Malaysian market as the range-topping naturally-aspirated (NA) variant of the popular sedan, with reports suggesting a price tag between RM65,000 and RM69,000. This follows the emergence of the base Lite variant, which is expected to retail between RM55,000 and RM59,000, according to the original publisher, Paultan.org.
The Prime variant distinguishes itself from the entry-level Lite through a series of aesthetic and functional upgrades. Externally, the Prime features automatic LED headlamps, 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, and silver-trimmed front bumper inlets, contrasting with the Lite’s halogen lighting, 16-inch turbine-style alloys, and black trim. The Prime also adds the convenience of auto-folding side mirrors.
Inside, the Prime offers a more premium experience with leatherette seat upholstery and a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, whereas the Lite is equipped with fabric seats and a urethane steering wheel. Furthermore, the Prime benefits from automatic air-conditioning and additional parking sensors at the front, building upon the rear-only sensor setup found in the Lite.
Both NA variants share core technology elements, including analogue gauges and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Notably, these models utilize the latest Saga operating system, which provides native support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other standard improvements across these new trims include a factory-fitted reverse camera and auto up/down windows, providing a significant step up from the existing Executive turbo variant’s auto-down functionality.
For the Malaysian consumer, these new additions represent a strategic attempt by Proton to bridge the gap between entry-level practicality and mid-tier tech. With headline inflation currently holding at 1.8% as of July 2026, the arrival of a well-equipped sedan under the RM70,000 mark offers a compelling value proposition for first-time buyers and families looking to upgrade without moving into the higher-taxed turbo segment.
The safety suite across the Lite and Prime trims is robust, featuring six airbags, stability control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision warning, door opening warning, and a rear seat reminder. For small-to-medium enterprises or fleet operators, this comprehensive safety package makes the S70 NA series a highly viable candidate for company vehicle procurement, as it balances modern connectivity with essential safety features at a manageable capital expenditure.
This move comes as Malaysia’s economy maintains a steady 6.0% real GDP growth rate. The S70 NA lineup arrives in a market where fuel costs remain a critical concern for motorists. With RON95 fuel priced at RM1.99 for those eligible for the BUDI95 subsidy and RM2.05 under the SKPS scheme—compared to the unsubsidized market rate of RM4.02—the efficiency of a naturally aspirated engine may appeal to budget-conscious commuters who prioritize long-term running costs over the high-performance output of the turbo models.
Proton’s expansion into the lower-priced segment is timely, considering the national unemployment rate sits at a stable 3.0%. By providing a more accessible price floor, the brand is likely aiming to capture market share from buyers who might otherwise have looked to the used car market to find a sedan with modern safety and infotainment features.
As of now, the official launch dates and the full finalized specification lists remain unconfirmed by Proton. Whether these NA variants will affect the production volume or pricing strategy of the existing turbo-powered S70 lineup is still a matter of speculation, and interested buyers will have to wait for an official announcement to confirm the exact final pricing.
