Puspakom Deploys AI to Streamline Commercial Vehicle Undercarriage Inspections

Puspakom has officially introduced Malaysia’s first AI-assisted undercarriage inspection technology, marking a major shift in how the agency processes commercial vehicles. Unveiled at the Jelajah Malaysia Digital 2026 event, this new system is designed to accelerate the inspection process by nearly 90 percent. Where manual checks previously required approximately ten minutes per vehicle, the AI-driven solution can now complete the same assessment in roughly one minute.

Developed in collaboration with Malaysian technology firm Keymag Sdn Bhd, the system utilizes intelligent image analysis to automate the detection of various vehicle components and potential defects. According to the original publisher, the technology is capable of identifying structural damage, corrosion, oil leaks, brake system faults, and axle issues with greater consistency than traditional methods.

Despite the automation, Puspakom has clarified that the AI functions strictly as a decision-support tool rather than an autonomous inspector. The system identifies potential issues and highlights them for further review, but the final determination of whether a vehicle passes or fails remains exclusively in the hands of human Vehicle Examiners. By streamlining the initial screening phase, the agency aims to enhance the accuracy and reliability of its safety assessments.

This technological adoption reflects a broader push toward digital transformation within Malaysia’s transport sector. By integrating intelligent image analysis into standard vehicle safety protocols, Puspakom is addressing long-standing efficiency challenges.
