Russian Gamer Receives Water Bottle Instead of New NVIDIA GPU

A PC gamer in Russia recently encountered a significant hardware scam after purchasing a Gigabyte NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti from the online marketplace Wildberries. The buyer had spent approximately US$1,125, or about RM4,598, on the high-end graphics card, but the unboxing revealed that the package contained a water bottle instead of the intended hardware.

The buyer took the precaution of recording the unboxing process while still at the collection point. By filming the act and capturing the serial number on the box, the customer ensured there was documented proof that the discrepancy existed at the time of pickup. This approach makes it considerably harder for the retailer to allege that the customer tampered with the contents after leaving the premises.

According to the original publisher, the footage of the incident was shared on social media, highlighting the importance of verifying expensive electronics before leaving a shop or pickup location. The presence of security cameras at the collection point, combined with the customer's own video evidence, provides a clear record of the fraudulent delivery.

As hardware prices for high-end components like the RTX 5070 Ti continue to rise, consumers are increasingly at risk of sophisticated retail fraud. For Malaysian shoppers who frequently purchase premium PC components online, this incident serves as a practical reminder to exercise caution. Verifying the contents of high-value shipments immediately upon receipt remains one of the most effective ways to mitigate the risk of falling victim to such scams.
