Tesla Opens Third Supercharger Location in Penang at Queensbay Mall

The new V4 charging facility at Queensbay Mall expands Tesla’s charging infrastructure in the northern region of Malaysia.

Tesla Malaysia has officially expanded its charging network in Penang with the opening of a new Supercharger location at Queensbay Mall. This site marks the third Tesla Supercharging location in the state, further strengthening the company's commitment to building out its EV infrastructure in the region. The chargers are located in the mall's basement carpark, specifically in the South Zone (LM) floor near pillar A01.

According to the original publisher, the site features the latest Tesla V4 Supercharger technology, which includes four CCS2 nozzles. These V4 units are notable for their longer cables and are capable of delivering a maximum charging power of up to 250kW. The location is currently exclusive to Tesla vehicles, maintaining the company's standard policy for this specific site.

Pricing for the service is set at RM1.08 per kWh. However, owners can take advantage of a lower rate of RM0.99 per kWh during off-peak hours, which run from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am. As with other Tesla Supercharger locations, the charging process is streamlined; owners do not need to use a separate app or payment card to initiate a session. Instead, users simply plug the nozzle into their vehicle, and the cost is automatically billed to the payment card saved on their Tesla account.

This development follows the continued growth of Tesla’s charging footprint across the country. Currently, Tesla Malaysia operates a network consisting of 20 Supercharging locations, totaling 88 DC charge points, alongside 18 Destination Charging locations with 76 AC charge points.

For Malaysian EV owners, the addition of more high-speed chargers in popular commercial hubs like Queensbay Mall is a significant step in reducing range anxiety. As the EV market matures in Malaysia, the accessibility of reliable, high-output DC charging infrastructure at frequently visited retail locations remains a critical factor for prospective buyers considering the transition to electric mobility.
