Malaysia Airports Enhances KLIA Terminal 1 E-Hailing Pick-Up Experience
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad has introduced a new dedicated e-hailing lounge and tracking system at KLIA Terminal 1 to streamline passenger pick-ups.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has officially announced a series of facility and operational upgrades at KLIA Terminal 1 aimed at improving the e-hailing pick-up process for travellers. These enhancements are designed to make passenger arrivals at the airport smoother, faster, and more convenient for users of ride-sharing services.
According to the original publisher, the new infrastructure includes dedicated waiting areas labelled as e-hailing lounges located on Level 1 of the terminal. To assist with the booking process, the airport has installed self-service kiosks that allow passengers to secure their rides and communicate specific pick-up locations to their drivers.
A significant addition to the facility is the implementation of a live screen system that tracks a driver’s arrival in real-time. This technology utilizes License Plate Recognition integrated with a Passenger Information Display System to provide accurate updates to waiting passengers. To further manage the area, on-ground marshals have been stationed at the terminal to facilitate traffic flow and provide assistance to travellers.
While the new facilities are intended to improve the overall arrival experience, the operational changes also include a new cost consideration for drivers. E-hailing operators are now required to pay a RM3 fee when entering the passenger pick-up area at the terminal.
These updates represent a significant shift in how airport authorities manage the increasing demand for ride-sharing services at Malaysia’s primary international gateway. For frequent travellers, the move signals an effort by MAHB to address longstanding congestion and logistical challenges that have previously hindered the e-hailing experience at KLIA. By integrating automated tracking and dedicated waiting infrastructure, the airport aims to create a more structured environment for both passengers and ride-sharing service providers.
