AEON Bank Announces Merdeka Bonus Campaign With Weekly Cash Rewards
AEON Bank customers can earn cash rewards through DuitNow QR transactions during this six-week national day promotion.

AEON Bank has launched its Merdeka Bonus campaign, offering customers the chance to win weekly cash rewards for conducting digital transactions between 17 August and 27 September 2026.
According to the original publisher, the campaign is designed to reward the bank’s existing user base while incentivizing the broader adoption of its digital banking services. Over the course of the six-week period, the bank will select a total of 414 lucky winners to receive a cash prize of RM31 each. These funds will be credited directly into the winners’ AEON Bank Savings Account-i.
To participate in the weekly lucky draw, customers must complete transactions using DuitNow QR. Each receipt with a minimum spend of RM15 entitles the user to one lucky draw ticket. The campaign is structured to select 69 winners every week throughout the promotional window.
Eligible customers are permitted to win the prize up to three times over the six-week campaign, allowing for a maximum potential cumulative reward of RM93. To be eligible for the draw, participants must be active AEON Bank customers who have successfully registered and activated their accounts prior to participating in the transactions.
For the average Malaysian consumer, this campaign represents a targeted effort by a digital-first bank to influence spending habits during the national celebration period. By tethering the rewards to the DuitNow QR ecosystem, the bank is essentially subsidizing micro-transactions for its users. This serves as a practical nudge for consumers to shift away from physical cash for small, daily purchases, further digitizing the everyday retail experience.
For the Malaysian economy, such initiatives are particularly relevant given the current inflationary environment. With headline inflation sitting at 1.8% as of July 2026, household budgets remain under pressure. While an RM31 reward is a modest figure, for a budget-conscious consumer, these incentives help offset the rising costs of living, particularly as fuel prices like the RON95 unsubsidized rate remain elevated at RM3.77 compared to the subsidized tiers.
The campaign arrives at a time when the digital banking sector is working to cement its foothold in the Malaysian financial landscape. Following a robust real GDP growth of 6.0% in the latest quarter, consumer spending has shown resilience. AEON Bank’s decision to launch a high-frequency, smaller-prize campaign rather than a single grand prize suggests a strategy focused on increasing the velocity of transactions rather than simply attracting one-off deposits.
Looking ahead, it remains to be seen if other digital banks will follow suit with similar transaction-based incentives as the year nears its final quarter. Market observers will likely watch to see if this campaign successfully drives long-term stickiness among AEON Bank’s user base or if the participation remains limited to those already active within the ecosystem.
The bank has not disclosed the specific total budget allocated for the promotional campaign or whether the reward mechanics will be expanded to include other forms of digital payments beyond DuitNow QR in future iterations.
