Astro Launches 30th Anniversary Campaign With Free Channel Access

The Malaysian broadcaster is celebrating three decades of service with complimentary channel unlocks, new pop-up channels, and hardware-free streaming options.

Astro has officially launched its "Thank You Malaysia" campaign to mark its 30th anniversary. The celebratory period runs from 13 August 2026 to 31 October 2026, featuring a suite of promotions, platform upgrades for NJOI, and nationwide events designed for its subscriber base.

According to the original publisher, all active Astro subscribers will receive complimentary access to the broadcaster’s full channel lineup starting from 15 August until 16 September 2026. During this same window, customers will gain access to the newly launched Astro X3 service. This allows users with compatible Smart TVs to stream content directly through the Astro app, removing the requirement for a physical set-top box.

To further enrich the viewing experience, the company is introducing two dedicated pop-up channels. The first, Astro 30 (CH 100), will operate from 15 August through 31 October 2026. This channel is set to broadcast a curated selection of international blockbusters, popular television programmes, and concerts. Confirmed content highlights include all eight films in the Spider-Man franchise, the BTS: Love Yourself in New York Concert Film, and the feature How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.

These initiatives represent a significant push by the broadcaster to leverage digital-first solutions, such as the Astro X3 service, to modernise the consumption of traditional media. For Malaysian households, the campaign provides an opportunity to access an expanded variety of content at no additional cost while testing the shift toward app-based streaming on smart home devices. By combining legacy broadcasting with new digital accessibility, the campaign aims to engage its long-term audience throughout the two-month celebration.
