DC Handal Expands Charging Network with Six New Points at Sunway Velocity
The new installation at the Cheras mall adds a mix of DC and AC charging options, further increasing the convenience for local electric vehicle owners.

DC Handal has officially activated six new electric vehicle (EV) charging points at Sunway Velocity Mall in Cheras, marking the latest expansion of their partnership with Sunway properties.
The new charging infrastructure is situated on Level B2 of the mall’s car park, specifically within the Preferred Parking area accessible via Entry B. This installation comprises one 50kW DC charger equipped with two CCS2 nozzles, alongside four 22kW AC charge points. According to the original publisher, these chargers are priced at RM1.30 per kWh for DC charging and RM1.00 per kWh for AC charging.
Users have multiple options for payment and activation. DC Handal’s system supports direct credit and debit card payments via an integrated terminal at the charger, as well as TNG eWallet QR codes. For those who prefer app-based ecosystems, the chargers can also be activated through the Gentari Go, ChargEV, and JomCharge applications.
With this addition, Sunway Velocity Mall now offers a total of 14 EV charging points for visitors. This includes the six new DC Handal points, six existing Tesla Destination (AC) chargers, and two 20kW AC charging points managed by Gentari. This density of infrastructure positions the mall as a key transit hub for EV owners navigating the busy Cheras district.
For Malaysian consumers, the continued build-out of high-speed charging at major retail destinations is crucial as the country transitions away from traditional fossil fuels. With unsubsidised RON95 petrol currently priced at RM3.82 and diesel at RM4.72 as of late August 2026, the economic appeal of switching to electric vehicles is becoming increasingly tied to the availability and cost-effectiveness of public charging stations. The presence of both DC and AC options allows drivers to choose between a rapid top-up while running errands or a slower, more economical charge during longer mall visits.
For SMEs and property investors, this development highlights the growing necessity of integrating EV-ready facilities into commercial assets. As Malaysia maintains a robust economic trajectory with a 6.0% year-on-year real GDP growth, consumer spending remains a primary driver of the economy. Retailers and mall operators that provide reliable charging infrastructure are likely to capture a larger share of the growing demographic of EV-owning households, which are increasingly using charging availability as a primary factor when choosing where to shop.
This expansion sits within a broader trend of private sector infrastructure investment aimed at addressing range anxiety in dense urban environments. While Malaysia has seen headline inflation moderate to 1.8% in July 2026, the cost of personal mobility remains a significant budget consideration for households. The proliferation of chargers in high-traffic commercial zones is a necessary step to support the government’s green mobility targets and maintain the current momentum in the automotive sector.
Looking forward, the local industry is expected to watch how network operators standardise interoperability between various charging apps and payment systems. As the number of EVs on the road continues to rise alongside a 3.0% unemployment rate—suggesting a stable workforce with disposable income—the demand for a seamless, unified charging experience will only increase.
It remains unconfirmed if DC Handal or Sunway plans to further expand the charging capacity at this specific location, or if additional hardware upgrades are planned to facilitate higher-speed charging beyond the current 50kW limit.
