Kedah JPJ Impounds Luxury Mercedes-Benz from Unlicensed Driver in Langkawi

Authorities seized a luxury vehicle after discovering the driver lacked both a valid driving licence and insurance coverage.

The Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized a Mercedes-Benz vehicle following a roadside enforcement operation in Langkawi. The incident took place during Ops Luxury, which was conducted by department officials along Jalan Padang Matsirat on August 17.

According to the original publisher, the vehicle was being operated by a Bangladeshi national at the time of the inspection. Upon review of the necessary documentation, enforcement officers discovered that the driver did not possess a valid driving licence. Furthermore, it was determined that the luxury vehicle was being driven without valid insurance coverage.

The operation, dubbed Ops Luxury, is part of a broader effort by the Kedah JPJ to monitor and ensure compliance with road safety regulations on the island. By targeting high-end vehicles, the department aims to identify motorists operating outside the bounds of local transport laws. The seized Mercedes-Benz has since been taken into custody by authorities for further investigation and processing.

For Malaysian motorists, this incident serves as a reminder of the strict enforcement regarding vehicle documentation and operator eligibility. Under local transport regulations, operating a vehicle without valid insurance and a proper licence carries significant legal consequences. The JPJ continues to emphasise that all drivers must adhere to mandatory registration and insurance requirements, regardless of the vehicle's make or the driver's background, to maintain safety standards on the road.
