Malaysia Ranks Among Global Leaders in Financial AI Adoption
Local affluent investors are integrating AI into their financial strategies at a rate of 85%, significantly outpacing the global average.

Malaysia has emerged as one of the top three markets globally for the adoption of artificial intelligence in the financial sector. According to a survey commissioned by HSBC and conducted by market research firm Ipsos, the nation currently holds an 85% adoption rate, surpassing the 73% global average.
The study, which surveyed approximately 10,000 affluent and high-net-worth individuals across 10 international markets, placed Malaysia alongside China, with both nations trailing slightly behind India, which leads at 86%. These findings were reported by the original publisher, noting that the data reflects a rapid shift in how wealth is managed in the country.
Despite the high level of technology integration, the data indicates that human expertise remains central to the investment process. More than half of the surveyed Malaysian investors, 58%, explicitly value a hybrid approach. While they utilize AI tools for financial and investment decision-making, they continue to rely on the critical oversight provided by financial professionals and institutions.
Generational trends show that younger investors are the most active users of these tools. Millennials recorded an 89% usage rate, followed closely by Generation Z at 86%. Generation X also showed significant engagement at 85%, while baby boomers registered at 78%. Across all demographics, financial professionals and institutions remain the leading source for investment ideas, cited by 65% of respondents.
This high adoption rate underscores a significant transformation in the local financial landscape, highlighting how affluent Malaysians are balancing digital efficiency with traditional advisory services. As AI tools become more prevalent, the preference for a hybrid model suggests that investors prioritize the combination of technological speed and the experienced human judgement necessary for managing complex wealth portfolios.
