Malaysian Junior Robotics Team Secures Five Medals in Beijing

Malaysia’s junior robotics team achieved a significant international milestone at the 23rd World Robot Challenge in Beijing, bringing home five medals. The contingent of 92 competitors, aged between nine and 18, faced stiff competition from over 5,000 participants representing 40 different countries.

According to the original publisher, the Malaysian squad secured two gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals. The gold medal performances included the Puck Collector Junior category, won by Che Raeesa Che Rostami, Anaqi Azizi Asnur, and Wan Umar Wan Azlan, and the Robobowling Senior category, claimed by Cheong Zhen Hao, Lee Jian Kai, and Yap Yu Min. Other team members, including Elijah Shreyash Nair and Muhammad Irfan Riz, contributed to the medal haul, which featured a silver medal in the Puck Collector Senior category.

For 12-year-old Che Raeesa, who was participating in her first international event, the competition served as a practical lesson in teamwork and compromise. The group, representing various schools and backgrounds from across Malaysia, operated as a unified team throughout the event.

The success of the young cohort highlights the growing emphasis on robotics and STEM education among Malaysian youth. By competing on a global stage under a single Malaysian identity, the team demonstrated the potential of local talent in high-level technical fields. The event served not only as a platform for engineering skill but also as an opportunity for these students to engage with peers from around the world.
