Perodua Traz Surges to Claim July 2026 SUV Sales Crown

The Perodua Traz has overtaken the Proton X50 to become the best-selling SUV in Malaysia for the month of July.

The Perodua Traz has reached a significant sales milestone, securing its position as Malaysia’s best-selling SUV for July 2026. According to the registration data, the model achieved 2,244 units during the month, marking the first time it has led the segment since its market introduction in late 2025.

Data provided by the original publisher indicates that this result reflects a major shift in the competitive landscape. Throughout the first half of 2026, the Proton X50 consistently dominated the category, holding the top spot in every month from January through June. While the Traz initially spent those months trailing in second or third place as production ramped up, the July figures show the two models crossing paths, with the X50 recording 1,953 registrations.

The competition remains tight at the top of the market. In July, the Perodua Ativa followed closely behind the Traz with 1,959 units, keeping the gap between the top three SUVs under 300 units. Meanwhile, the Toyota Yaris Cross, which began seeing significant volume in May, has established itself as a regular feature in the top four, recording 1,381 registrations for the month.

Despite the recent success of the Traz, the cumulative data for the first seven months of the year reveals that the Proton X50 retains its lead. From January to July 2026, the Proton model recorded 15,599 registrations, compared to 12,997 for the Traz and 12,069 for the Ativa.

This performance indicates growing momentum for Perodua's latest SUV, contrasting with a slight decline in volume for the X50 compared to its early-year performance. With the Yaris Cross continuing to ramp up, the segment is becoming increasingly crowded. If the July results are not a one-off occurrence, the remainder of 2026 may see a prolonged battle for the annual SUV sales title, signaling a more competitive environment for local automotive buyers.
