Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV Begins Local Assembly at Tanjung Malim Plant

Proton has officially commenced the local assembly (CKD) of the e.MAS 7 PHEV at its dedicated EV plant located in Tanjung Malim. This production shift represents a strategic expansion for Pro-Net, as it ensures that the assembly of all three existing Proton e.MAS models, including the e.MAS 7 EV and the e.MAS 5, is now fully localized within Malaysia.

According to the original publisher, the transition to local assembly does not signal significant changes for the vehicle's hardware. Early adopters of the previously imported (CBU) version will find the specifications largely identical. The primary update introduced with the CKD model is the addition of a massage feature for the seats, which serves as the sole major upgrade over the predecessor.

Regarding potential price adjustments, Pro-Net has indicated that the pricing structure for the CKD units will be announced at a later date. Currently, the e.MAS 7 PHEV Prime is priced at RM105,800, while the Premium and Premium Plus variants are listed at RM119,800 and RM125,800 respectively. These figures currently include a RM4,000 launch rebate.

The rollout follows a strong performance for the model in the domestic market. Since its launch in February, Pro-Net reported that over 4,600 units of the e.MAS 7 PHEV had been delivered to customers by June 30, 2026. The company also noted that the vehicle currently maintains a 47% share of the local plug-in hybrid electric vehicle market.

This transition to local production is a significant step for Proton's commitment to the Malaysian automotive industry. By moving assembly to Tanjung Malim, the manufacturer strengthens its domestic EV ecosystem, potentially paving the way for more sustainable supply chain operations and improved delivery timelines for local consumers interested in electrified mobility.
