Proton eMas 5 Dominates July 2026 EV Sales in Malaysia

The Proton eMas 5 cements its position as Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle, shifting 2,402 units in July.

The Proton eMas 5 has established a commanding lead in the Malaysian electric vehicle market, recording 2,402 registrations in July 2026. This figure marks the model’s strongest month since its launch and positions it as the sixth best-selling vehicle in the country overall, surpassing both internal combustion engine models and other EVs in popularity.

Data provided by the road transport department (JPJ) and reported by the original publisher indicates that the eMas 5 is currently selling nearly five times as many units as its closest competitor. The BYD Atto 3 secured second place with 531 units, narrowly ahead of the Proton eMas 7, which recorded 526 units. The Tesla Model Y followed in fourth with 470 units, while the Zeekr 7X rounded out the top five with 416 units.

The remainder of the top ten list includes the Leapmotor B10 in seventh with 230 units, the BYD Atto 2 in eighth with 212 units, the iCaur 03 in ninth with 191 units, and the iCaur V23 in tenth with 139 units. Other notable entrants include the Chery V23, which debuted at 12th place with 119 units, and the Perodua QV-E, which achieved its best performance yet by tying the BYD M6 for 14th place with 109 units.

In total, 6,937 electric vehicles were registered across Malaysia in July. This represents an 11.6% increase compared to the 6,215 units registered in June, making it the strongest month for EV adoption in the country so far this year.

This surge in registration numbers highlights a significant shift in local consumer preferences toward electric mobility. As infrastructure continues to develop and more models enter the market, the sustained growth in monthly EV sales indicates that electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly mainstream choice for Malaysian motorists.
