Redmi 17 Launches In Malaysia With 4G And 5G Connectivity Options
Xiaomi has officially released the Redmi 17 smartphone series in Malaysia, featuring both 4G and 5G variants starting from RM699.

The Redmi 17 has officially arrived in the Malaysian market, with the Xiaomi Official Store on Shopee now listing both 4G and 5G variants. Following their appearance on SIRIM last month, these devices are available for local consumers, with the 5G model offering two distinct storage configurations alongside the standard 4G version. Across all available options, the devices are equipped with 4GB of memory.
According to the original publisher, the 4G and 5G versions of the Redmi 17 share a largely identical set of hardware specifications. Both models feature a 6.9-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Powering the devices is a substantial 7,500 mAh battery that supports 45W wired charging, as well as 22.5W reverse charging capabilities. For photography, the brand has included a 50MP AI dual camera system, though specific technical details regarding the individual sensors have not been disclosed.
A notable design feature included on both models is the Dynamic RGB Light ring situated near the camera array. This ring functions as a camera flash while also serving as a notification indicator that changes colours based on the type of alert received. While the core hardware is shared, the primary difference between the two devices lies in their chipsets; the 4G model is powered by the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra, which dictates the connectivity capabilities of each respective handset.
The arrival of the Redmi 17 series provides Malaysian consumers with more accessible options in the budget-to-mid-range smartphone segment. By offering a 5G-ready variant, the release caters to the growing demand for higher connectivity speeds within the local telco landscape. With the starting price set at RM699, the series aims to balance modern features like high-refresh-rate displays and large battery capacities with competitive entry-level pricing for the domestic market.
