Selangor Initiates Feasibility Study for New Seawater Desalination Plant

State infrastructure officials have confirmed that a feasibility study regarding the development of a seawater desalination plant in Selangor is currently underway. The project, which aims to address water supply infrastructure requirements, is scheduled to have its findings presented by December.

According to the original publisher, the study is being spearheaded by Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd in direct collaboration with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor). Both entities have jointly appointed a professional consultant to oversee the technical assessment.

The comprehensive study is expected to span a period of six months. Once concluded, the results will provide the necessary data for state authorities to determine whether desalination serves as a viable, long-term solution to bolster the state's existing water resources.

Datuk Izham Hashim, the chairman of the Selangor State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee, noted that this initiative is part of broader efforts to evaluate alternative water sources. By exploring desalination technology, the state government intends to examine how modern engineering can mitigate potential water security challenges.
