TNG eWallet Adopts Ant International’s AI-Powered Agentic Mobile Protocol

Malaysia’s leading e-wallet will soon support automated AI payments as Ant International rolls out its new global framework.

Ant International has officially launched its Agentic Mobile Protocol (AMP), a sophisticated framework that enables AI agents to conduct secure, automated financial transactions on behalf of users. As part of its initial global deployment, the company has integrated this technology with 10 major digital wallets, prominently including Malaysia’s TNG eWallet.

According to the original publisher, the protocol is designed to facilitate "agentic commerce," where AI assistants—such as chatbots or smart device agents—handle the entire purchase journey. This process encompasses product searches, price comparisons, and final checkouts, effectively removing the need for users to manually switch between multiple applications or re-enter sensitive payment credentials for every transaction.

The scale of this Phase I rollout is significant, potentially impacting 1.5 billion users across the Alipay+ network. Beyond TNG eWallet, the initial list of supported platforms includes major regional players such as Alipay in China, AlipayHK, DANA in Indonesia, and GCash in the Philippines. This indicates a concentrated effort to standardize automated payments across the Asian digital economy.

To ensure the security of these automated transactions, Ant International has initiated a cross-industry collaboration with global payment giants Mastercard and Visa. This partnership focuses on establishing a "Know-Your-Agent" (KYA) interoperability framework, which is intended to standardize how AI entities are identified, verified, and managed. By creating these guardrails, the companies aim to maintain security standards across diverse global card networks and digital payment rails.

For the average Malaysian consumer, this development signals a shift toward a more frictionless digital lifestyle. If TNG eWallet users grant their AI assistants permission to transact, routine expenses could soon be managed autonomously. For local SMEs, this could mean an increased necessity to ensure their digital storefronts are "AI-readable" so that autonomous agents can successfully navigate their product listings and pricing structures.

The implementation comes at a time when the Malaysian economy is showing resilience, with a recorded real GDP growth of 6.0% year-on-year in the latest quarter. As consumer confidence potentially tracks with this growth, the adoption of AI-driven payment tools may help streamline domestic consumption. However, the reliance on automated systems will also require users to maintain higher vigilance regarding digital security and spending habits.

This move marks a technological evolution from passive digital payments to active, autonomous financial management. It builds upon the existing ecosystem of QR-based payments that have become ubiquitous in Malaysia. Following this launch, industry observers will likely monitor how local regulators respond to the security implications of "agentic" financial activity, particularly regarding dispute resolutions when an AI makes an unauthorized or erroneous purchase.

While the integration is confirmed for the TNG eWallet, the specific timeline for when individual Malaysian users will see this functionality appear in their app interface remains unconfirmed. Furthermore, the extent of the controls available to users to limit the spending thresholds of their AI agents has not been detailed. It is also unclear whether additional local partners will be added to the AMP network in the near future.
