Perodua Dominates July 2026 Vehicle Registrations as Toyota Hits Annual High
Malaysia’s national carmaker records a significant monthly increase, leading a competitive market as JPJ releases the latest registration data.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has released vehicle registration data for July 2026, confirming Perodua’s continued dominance in the Malaysian automotive market. The national carmaker registered 31,842 units last month, marking a 15.7% increase from June and representing its second-strongest month of the year. This performance brings Perodua’s year-to-date total to 190,137 vehicles.
Proton maintained its position in second place with 17,018 units, a 10.2% monthly improvement, reaching a year-to-date tally of 115,028. Meanwhile, Toyota secured third place by achieving its best monthly performance of the year, registering 11,822 units—a 21.8% increase over June, according to the original publisher, Paultan.org. This figure includes reconditioned units and brings Toyota’s year-to-date volume to 62,413.
The middle of the pack saw intense competition among several brands. Honda holds fourth place with 5,369 units, while Omoda | Jaecoo remains the leading Chinese brand in fifth with 1,309 units. A tight race followed, with only four units separating BYD in sixth place with 1,226 units and Jetour in seventh with 1,216 units. Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Chery rounded out the top ten, while brands such as Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Zeekr occupied positions further down the list.
The July data highlights a period of significant activity within the Malaysian automotive sector, reflecting shifting consumer demand and varied supply chain outcomes across different manufacturers. For Malaysian buyers and stakeholders, these registration trends offer a clear view of market leadership and the evolving presence of international brands—particularly the tightening competition between Chinese manufacturers and established market players—which ultimately influences inventory availability, service networks, and the broader competitive landscape for new vehicles in the country.
