Puspakom Deploys AI for Rapid Undercarriage Vehicle Inspections
The national inspection company has integrated AI technology to cut undercarriage assessment times by 90 percent.

Puspakom has officially rolled out an artificial intelligence-powered system for undercarriage vehicle inspections, marking a significant technological shift for Malaysia’s statutory commercial vehicle testing. The company claims to be the first in Malaysia and among the first globally to apply AI technology to this specific sector of statutory inspections.
According to the original publisher, the primary advantage of the new system is efficiency. By automating the visual analysis process, the AI-powered inspection reduces the time required for an undercarriage check from approximately 10 minutes to just one minute. This 90 percent reduction in processing time is designed to improve throughput for commercial vehicle operators.
Developed in partnership with the Malaysian technology firm Keymag, the system functions by using intelligent image analysis to identify mechanical issues. The software is capable of detecting structural damage, corrosion, oil leaks, brake system faults, and axle defects. Puspakom states that this automated process improves the consistency of defect detection while maintaining the required rigour and integrity of statutory checks.
The technology is currently deployed as part of the Puspakom Mobile Truck Service for heavy commercial vehicles. While the system automates the analysis, Puspakom noted that human involvement remains a critical component of the overall inspection process.
For the local transport industry, these efficiency gains serve a dual purpose. By increasing the number of vehicles inspected per hour, the system aims to reduce waiting times for fleet operators. For individual drivers, the faster turnaround means less time spent at inspection centers and more time available for logistics operations, contributing to a more efficient and safer transportation ecosystem across Malaysia.
