Touch ‘n Go to Roll Out 10 Enhanced RFID Lanes by Year-End

Touch ‘n Go (TNG) has announced the expansion of its Enhanced RFID network, confirming the addition of 10 new high-performance toll lanes across five Malaysian highways by the final quarter of 2026.

Revealed at the MyARTTE 2026 conference in Kuala Lumpur to mark the company’s 30th anniversary, the expansion covers the MEX, SILK, Grand Sepadu, GCE, and EKVE highways. These 10 lanes will be spread across six toll plazas, with motorists advised to look for a distinctive gold star symbol on the signage to identify the upgraded, faster-processing lanes.

According to the original publisher, the Enhanced RFID system represents a significant technical leap from the standard RFID infrastructure currently used on most Malaysian expressways. The lanes utilize a combination of Touch ‘n Go’s homegrown Titan Flow technology, advanced Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), and integrated artificial intelligence.

By layering machine learning and AI over traditional RFID signals, the system aims to improve vehicle detection accuracy and throughput at the toll gate. This technical synergy is designed to act as a critical stepping stone toward the government’s long-term vision of a Single Lane Fast Flow (SLFF) system, eventually paving the way for a fully barrier-free Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) environment.

For the average Malaysian commuter, this rollout signifies a tangible move toward reducing the persistent bottlenecks at toll plazas that often lead to congestion during peak hours. As the country maintains a strong economic momentum with a real GDP growth of 6.0%, efficient logistical flow is increasingly vital for both personal mobility and the productivity of SMEs that rely on these major routes for daily deliveries.

Beyond convenience, these upgrades address the broader economic need for digitizing national infrastructure. With Malaysia’s headline inflation standing at 1.9% as of August 2026, motorists are navigating an environment where fuel costs remain a significant portion of household expenditure—specifically with unsubsidized RON95 hovering at RM4.57 and diesel at RM5.42. By reducing idling time at toll plazas, these enhanced lanes could theoretically assist in marginal fuel savings for frequent highway users over the long term.

The deployment of these 10 lanes follows a successful pilot program at the Dato Keramat Toll Plaza on the AKLEH highway earlier this year. This phased approach reflects the cautious, systematic integration required when upgrading critical national infrastructure that serves millions of road users daily.

Industry observers view this move as a necessary transition period for Malaysia’s smart transport ecosystem. While the country works toward a cashless, barrier-free future, the current reliance on hybrid detection systems highlights the challenges of retrofitting existing toll plazas to support AI-enhanced traffic management.

Despite this announcement, specific operational details remain unconfirmed. Touch ‘n Go has not yet disclosed which precise toll plazas will be prioritized for the rollout, nor has it provided a detailed timeline for the eventual conversion of the remaining legacy RFID lanes on these highways.
