TNG Digital Shifts Strategy as Non-Payment Revenue Hits Record High
TNG Digital has officially moved beyond its origins as a payments provider, with over half of the company's revenue now generated from non-payment services.

TNG Digital, the operator of TNG eWallet, has reached a significant milestone as more than half of its total revenue now originates from sources outside of traditional payments. According to the original publisher, the company has transitioned from its roots as a toll-and-parking wallet into a diverse platform serving over 26 million verified users.
The shift marks a strategic pivot for the business, which recorded its first full year of profit in 2025. During the same period, the company achieved the status of being Malaysia’s first fintech unicorn. CEO Alan Ni, who joined as the firm's third employee, noted that the business model has fundamentally changed, with non-payment streams now accounting for 53% of total revenue, a stark contrast to a previous model where payments made up 75% of earnings.
Under Ni’s leadership, the company has focused on moving away from the costly pursuit of additional payment market share, which the firm indicated only leads to larger financial losses. This change in philosophy has also extended to the app's user experience. The interface has undergone a major redesign, shifting from a "Yahoo-style" layout to a more streamlined, "Google-style" search bar approach to better serve its massive user base.
Beyond the strategic shifts, the company’s evolution reflects broader trends in the Malaysian fintech landscape as major players move toward profitability and platform diversification. By successfully de-risking from a payment-only model, TNG Digital is attempting to solidify its position as a long-term financial ecosystem player. For Malaysian consumers, this suggests that the e-wallet will continue to evolve into a broader digital utility, moving further away from its initial purpose of simplifying toll and parking transactions.
